Your therapist online

Hello! My name is Cora Schwartz and I would like to take this opportunity to talk to you about my counseling philosophies and what I have to offer you:

What sets me apart from most other Mental Health professionals is my philosophy about who provides the most successful counseling. I have strong opinions about who is the most qualified and effective (regardless of education) to help others with life problems. As a consequence I offer those services I would want for myself; specifically to be counseled by another woman who has had, in some way, the same problems and challenges that I am experiencing. I would want her to be a role-model, an inspiration. As in the anonymous programs, when I respond to a client, I always try to start my sentence by saying 'From my experience...' in order to both feel and project compassion. Therefore, my practice is limited to women only. I tell clients from the very beginning of our therapeutic relationship that I cannot cure their problems, or help them ignore or bury them. However, I can increase their awareness; and with that awareness comes change.

To share my truth. To bear witness to the story.
Per chance,, to take your hand
And guide you down the path.
My God, I know what you are feeling!
I have been there myself.

In my holistic approach I work with a women client toward the integration of all the parts of her being. Achieving wellness requires balancing the various aspects of the whole. person: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. According to the World Health Organization, "Health is more than the absence of disease. Health is a state of optimal well-being." Optimal well-being is a concept of health that goes beyond the curing of an illness to one of achieving wellness.

Some of the modalities I draw from include traditional counseling, Behavior Modification, Rationale Emotive Therapy and ( most exciting ) Guided Imagery. I believe that as women we have all the knowledge we need to live successful, joyful lives. How to tap into that buried knowledge is the skill many of us do not have. I believe in the teachings of Dr. Pinkola-Estes (see Women Who Run With the Wolves) and what she has to say about instincts. I use Dr. Charles Leviton's book, The Conflict Between Us is the Conflict Within Me to help women with relationship issues. As a Certified Guided Imagery Therapist, one of the most impressive works I have come across of late is Dr. Liption's book, The Biology of Belief. Modern science continues to come up with astounding examples of the mind-body connection. Thanks to medical technology we now see theory becoming fact.

I am also available for ‘old-fashioned' house calls in the tri-state area if there is a need. In addition I have recently joined the International Society of Mental Health Online and am working with clients on the telephone with good results. I also find that many women express themselves better when they can use email to write down their thoughts, fears or concerns. Others also enjoy the anonymity of phone conversations. I offer a free, initial counseling session via the phone or email where you can feel relaxed and comfortable in your own environment while speaking or telling me why you might need my services.

I accept PayPal payments on this site or Money Orders. With respect to fees please keep in mind that I believe that counseling should lead to a more rational life within weeks or months, not years.

I invite you to navigate this site to learn more about the topics I mention above. I look forward to hearing from you. Please ask questions.
